COMMUNITY foundation SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Welcome to the Scholarship Program of the Maricopa Community Foundation

Scholarship Program

The Community Foundation Scholarship Program consists of separate scholarship funds created by individual donors who establish specific criteria for the administration of their scholarship and is consistent with overall Community Foundation policy.

Scholarships are available to local students who will attend an accredited post-secondary institution within the United States of America on a full-time basis.

Please review the information below for more information regarding application criteria, eligibility, and submission process.

General Policies

Even though there are multiple scholarships offered through the Community Foundation Scholarship Program, only one application is required from each applicant to be considered for any one or all of the scholarships available.

  • Students apply to the Community Foundation Scholarship Program as a whole, not for a particular scholarship, and are considered for any scholarship in which they are eligible.
  • The philosophy of the Community Foundation Scholarship Program is to help as many individual students as possible, therefore only one scholarship may be received by any one student in any given year although they may be eligible for several different scholarships offered.
  • The Maricopa Community Foundation reserves the right to amend or to modify the scope of the Scholarship Program.

John E. and Mary Lou Smith Scholarship

This scholarship provides financial support for Maricopa students who demonstrate financial need, the potential for academic success, and a history of community service.

John and Mary Lou Smith, longtime residents of Maricopa provided funds to establish a scholarship in their name. When the State of Arizona purchased the property that was Rotary Park, the Smiths donated a portion of the money from the sale to start the scholarship program. Both of the Smiths have been involved in the development of Maricopa for a number of decades. Mary Lou was a key figure in the development of the present library and supporter of the building of the new library. The City of Maricopa is forever grateful to John and Mary Lou for their continued support of the youth in the community.

“We want to support students in our community who may not have had the chance to attend college, giving them the same opportunity to succeed.”
